Character Application and Approvals
Each player must first submit a Character Application in the New Character Application Board, before being able to post as their character in any of the IG areas. As well, players must have their power(s) approved in the Power(s), Mutant Level, and Equipment Board before being able to use those powers, Mutant Level, or equipment in any IG roleplay thread. Any place in the Information, Character Database, or Member Resources Boards is totally fine to post in, just keep in mind that these boards mentioned are for OOG posting. Regarding questions, concerns, OOG game crack, or whatever people feel like talking about that isn't IG roleplay.
Character Limit
On this site there is no limit to the amount of character that you are allowed to portray, barring two things. First, you must get all of those characters approved. Second, no person other than a staff member may portray more than one Canon NPC and any one time. This is not to prevent player’s from having the opportunity to roleplay as Canon NPC’s but instead to spread the wealth of Canon NPC’s amongst the player base and staff. If a single player portrays both Xavier and Magneto, it is much harder to create dynamic roleplay amongst those characters. So in pursuit of both fairness and story this is the only hard rule in regards to Character Limits.
The only other thing that should be noted is that any person with more than one character that they portray must create a character list. The Character List Board is the place to post a thread with a link to all your different Characters Profiles. It's very helpful for staff to help keep track of character activity and information. As I said and to reiterate it is required for players with more than one character, whether it’s an NPC, Canon NPC, or Original Character.
Word Count
This forum does not have any specific required word count. However, try to post as much as you can, it really increases the atmosphere and mood. Even if you feel like your dialogue or monologue skills are poor, be very descriptive in your character’s actions. No one will judge you if some words are misspelled, or your writing is not perfect grammatically, we are all here to take part in creating stories. So go take part in a story and have fun.
Flaming
Flaming (hostility, being intentionally offensive or insulting) is not tolerated. We understand that sometimes characters IG might talk trash or be disruptive but please keep it in character. Also should a person ever state that they are uncomfortable with certain words or phrases being used towards them or their character try to be polite and do not use them.
In the spirit of encouraging player participation and enjoyment, we strive to provide an atmosphere which is LGBTQ-friendly, anti-racist, anti-ablist, woman-friendly and otherwise discrimination and harassment free.
Bottom line If feminism, same-sex relationships, or anti-oppressive practice makes you unhappy or otherwise makes you react negatively, this forum is probably not for you.
Furthermore, the site also upholds the principle that your political, philosophical, and theological beliefs are respected. Whilst it is acceptable to explain your beliefs and disagree with people in chat (not to argue with them), please be aware that the site's policy on discrimination or prejudice against race, gender, or orientation will trump the respect for religion or politics. In other words, if your religious or political beliefs do incorporate the view that a certain race, gender, or sexual orientation is inferior or immoral, keep that to yourself. Or you will be removed from the site immediately.
Godmodding
Godmodding while roleplaying here is not allowed. If the staff doesn’t catch it when you do it, the members surely will. We want to keep the roleplay as fair as possible. Just remember that your character isn't indestructible and can't do whatever he/she/it wants, whenever it wants to. Also be fair when it comes to using your character’s powers or when your character is affected by a power, no one is truly indestructible. No one is ultimately immune to everything, and if a player continually expresses this sort of roleplay through their character this sort of godmodding might lead to player warning, or sadly a lack of people wanting to roleplay with you. So be fair, take a hit now and again, it makes for great story and adds to everyone’s enjoyment.
Metagaming
Metagaming is when you use out-of-character knowledge that your character wouldn't rightfully know while roleplaying. This isn't allowed and will be caught. Remember, we want to keep things as fair as possible. Examples of Meta gaming on the site would be reading another character(s) thread and then having your character somehow be aware of it. If your character is not present in a thread, or is not told what has happened in game, then your character is not aware of what transpired. Even if you the player are aware of the story. This same idea applies to canon and continuity as well. Just because you the player know all of the marvel, x-men, canon and continuity OOG, it does not mean your character knows any of it IG.
Explicit material
Explicit material (sexual roleplaying, inappropriate images or links, etc.) is not allowed, not even in pm, by our forum standards and the new proboards rules. Anyone in violation of this rule will be immediately banned with no discussion or questions, and the content will be deleted.
Powers USE and Roleplay
PC Power USE:
Powers function just as we would hope they are detailed to function but there must be a level of player agency and fairness. Just because you want to shoot someone with laser vision doesn't mean that it is the way it will work out. All information gathered, effects rendered, etc. must be verbally agreed upon by both players publicly in the posts. Meaning that if Player A decides to try and telepathy player b he must add an OOG line to the post that says he wishes to use the power. As well as stating the target of the power. ON player B's next post, they respond with an OOG line stating whether they agree to allow the power to function on them or not. And what effect takes place for their character.
Example:
Player A's character’s post: walks into the room, noticing a person in the corner he decides to try and use his telepathy on the person.
(OOG – Using telepathy, on the man in the corner. Player B.)
Player B's character’s post: See’s the man walk into the room then notices that he starts to stare at him. Wondering what his intentions are he stares back, expecting possible trouble.
(OOG – the telepathy is successful. You get several things on his surface thoughts including questions about who your character is, why he is staring at him, and when the man he is waiting for will arrive. I will not allow you to mentally dig further however, only surface thoughts right now.)
NPC Power USE:
All powers used on NPC's take effect normally however it must be kept in mind NPC's are tools for furthering story and plot. If your character blatantly attacks npc's whether they are portrayed NPC's or non-portrayed (Meaning no one other, then you post their reactions). There will be IG repercussions, such as infamy or possibly other character trying to take you out. Based on the severity of the actions.
Combat
Just like powers, all combat is done by mediation and a verbal agreement from both players. If either player does not wish to engage in combat, they are allowed to free escape the scene to avoid combat. However should we ever see this rule being abused by flagrant uses to entrap, harass, or destroy role play on the site the person guilty will be warned or punished based on the level of abuse.
Character Death
All Character Deaths must be discussed with and confirmed by a member of staff, the character or npc is not officially dead until its approved by the staff. This is to prevent abuses of the rules and systems of the game.
As is obvious by the already discussed rules, this is not the sort of game where your character can just run around killing other PC's or Portrayed NPC's. This is a game of heroes and villains. And in all heroic stories the hero doesn't always die, just the same as the villain may get away. This is a site dedicated to creating epic stories for our players which means character death may happen, but it needs to be an agreed upon story plot. Someone dyeing is pointless in a story if nothing is learned, affected, or changed. In stories, movies, and comics deaths affect the remaining characters in countless ways. On the flip side, if a character is truly not being affected by anything, is "indestructible" outside of a power (wolverine like regeneration, etc) specifically stating this affect, it is godmodding. Plus, it creates an atmosphere where there is no real struggle to the story, and struggles are the essence of stories. So all we ask is use your best judgement when it comes to your own or other player's character deaths. We are all here to have fun and be a part of stories, so let’s focus on making those stories great.
Please add the word "Mutant" to the password line of your Character Application, to show that you have read and understand the rules of the forum.
